NSK bearings for ball screw drives offer high load factors

NSK now manufactures its proven BSBD series of axial angular contact ball bearings in the company’s proprietary HPS standard for high precision bearings. HPS, which stands for ‘High Performance Standard’, means these new bearings offer higher load factors and are especially suitable for use as the support bearings for ball screw drives. Under the product name NSKHPS BSBD, the company would expect the principal application areas to be in machine tools and automated handling systems.

Significantly increased load factors are a principal benefit of NSKHPS BSBD bearings for ball screw drives

Ball screw drives from NSK perform highly accurate linear movements – such as the positioning of workpieces or the movement of tool axes – for many leading machine tool manufacturers. Here, BSBD axial angular contact ball bearings are ideal as the rotary bearing of the ball screw drive. This is thanks to their double row configuration and 60° contact angle, which means they can withstand high axial loads in both directions. At the same time, BSBD bearings offer the stiffness and accuracy required for modern precision machinery.

Now, with the introduction of NSKHPS BSBD bearings, load factors have been increased significantly over standard BSBD bearings, making them even more durable than before. Additional sizes have also been added to the range that now includes bore diameters from 12 to 60 mm in two different variants: with mounting holes for flange assembly (BSF) or without mounting holes (BSN, to be used in conjunction with a separate housing component).

The new bearings are greased for life and effectively sealed using low friction contact seals in a multi-lip design. This ensures excellent grease retention properties and high resistance to dust penetration, as well as the ability to be operated at high speed. Whereas with competitor bearings users have to select between different sealing options in order to ensure high speed capability, NSK meets all requirements in a single version. If any special applications demand bearings with higher axial loads and/or greater stiffness, matched bearing pairs can be selected.

About NSK

Established 100 years ago, NSK (Nippon Seiko Kabushiki Kaisha) is a Japanese-listed company that has evolved from a regional ball bearing supplier to a roller bearing specialist and automotive supplier with a global market presence. Today, NSK employs more than 31,500 employees in 30 countries. As per March 2016 NSK achieved a turnover of 975 billion Yen. This result has been driven by ever-increasing investment in research & development, enabling the company to continuously improve the quality of its products and services. This investment supports NSK’s objective of “No. 1 in Total Quality”. In addition to a complete rolling bearing portfolio, NSK develops and manufactures precision components and mechatronic products, as well as systems and components for the automotive industry, including wheel bearing units and electric power-steering systems.

In 1963, NSK’s first European subsidiary, Düsseldorf, Germany, was opened and in 1976, the first European production facility in Peterlee, England. Today, NSK Europe supports pan-European sales with production locations in England, Poland and Germany, logistics centres in the Netherlands, Germany and England and technology centres in Germany, England and Poland. In 1990, NSK purchased the UPI Group including the renowned European bearing manufacturer RHP, with its factory in Newark (UK). Additionally, NSK has developed a comprehensive network of authorised sales distributors. NSK Europe is divided into application-based business divisions: Industry rolling bearing technologies & linear and precision technology (EIBU) as well as bearing modules and steering systems for the automotive industry (EABU & ESBU). In this organisation, NSK Europe’s 3,500 employees achieved a turnover of over 1,000 million Euros as per March 2016.
